Constitutional Convention?

Robert Novak has reported that supporters of a constitutional amendment to keep the courts from legalizing homosexual marriage, stunned by poor support in the recent Senate vote, are beginning a campaign for a constitutional convention.

He goes on to say that a recent memo circulated within the anti-gay marriage coalition lists Princeton Professor Robby George, Tony Perkins and Chuck Donovan of the Family Research Council, and conservative financial consultant Frank Cannon as favoring the strategy.

Regardless of whether or not a constitutional amendment is really the best idea to prevent legalizing homosexual marriage, we need to focus more on what homosexuality means to people.

Some people support gay marriage, some people don’t, and some people have no opinion. The real issue behind homosexuality lies deeper than any social or moral issue. Here’s what I found on MSNBC:

“The brains of homosexual men respond more like those of women when reacting to a chemical derived from the
male sex hormone, new evidence of physical differences related to sexual orientation. The finding, published in
Tuesday’s issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, shows differences in physiological reaction to
sex hormones.”

MSNBC May 9, 2005

I’m sure people have heard homosexuals say that they were born gay or knew at a young age. In fact, most homosexuals say it is not their choice to be gay, which medical evidence shows that this may be true. Their brains work differently then heterosexuals.
Yet the American Psychiatric Association stopped classifying homosexuality as a mental disorder in 1973. Instead, they use the term “sexual orientation”. Sexual orientation is a choice you make.

If homosexuality is not a choice for people, then how can it be just a preference or orientation? It’s not. It’s a mental disorder. Many people today have mental disorders, but we don’t create new laws to accommodate their disease. We expect them to get help. We are not going to pass a law that permits people to walk around nude because they have a condition that makes them want to be nude all the time.

People need to realize that homosexuality is a mental illness and accepting these people as normal people who just choose a different lifestyle will only damage them more. Homosexuality is not a social or moral issue, it is a mental issue that needs to be acknowledged and treated. We need to help these people, not push them away from treatment because they are told that it is a moral sin.

Senate rejects calls on Iraq troop pullout

The GOP-controlled Senate on Thursday rejected Democratic calls to start withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq by years’ end.

This issue is obviously a hot topic for our government as well as most Americans. In fact, polls have shown that Americans are supporting the war in Iraq less. Is it possible to not support the war but think that the troops need to stay in Iraq until the war is finished? Of course.

You can have personal beliefs against the war and still realize that strategically we still need troops in Iraq to finish the war. If we pull out and run too soon, we will regret it. First of all, it makes us look weak and fearful. Second, once you start something that extreme, you need to finish it.

Senator John McCain said, “The United States, with our Iraqi partners, has the responsibility to see this through.” I don’t think McCain could have said it better.

Even though many people don’t support the war in Iraq, we started it and we need to finish it. And obviously the Senate agrees. In fact, the Senate turned back a proposal from some Democrats that would require the administration to withdraw all combat troops from Iraq by July 1, 2007 in an 86-13 vote.

Even most of the Democrats disagree with two members of their own party, the two who proposed the bill. Those two were Russ Feingold and John Kerry. Two people who are more concerned about pleasing other people than they are doing their jobs.

Sometimes the American people don’t always know what will be best for our country because most of us don’t have the time to learn about everything our government leaders know. They are the professionals, we are not. The only thing we can go by is our own personal beliefs.

I (like some American I hope) set my personal beliefs aside and think about what is best for our country and the people in it. I actually use my brain and think about it logically instead of with my emotions. People like this make good leaders for our country. They make good leaders in general. And I can see many government leaders who are the opposite that I hope never get into a position of leadership in our country.

Blanco signs law that would ban abortions

Louisiana Democratic Gov. Kathleen Blanco signed into law a ban on most abortions, which would be triggered if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns its 1973 ruling legalizing the procedure according to Reuters. The ban would apply to all abortions, even in cases of rape or incest, except when the mother’s life is threatened.

For a Democrat, Blanco is really crossing party lines with this ban. Most Democrats are Pro-Choice, but not necessarily. I’m a Republican but I think woman she have the option of abortion. I personally don’t believe that abortion is right, but sometimes things happen and people make mistakes. It’s not right for me to place my personal beliefs on other people. But Blanco has said, “The central provision of the bill supports and reflects my personal beliefs.” Who cares about her personal beliefs? Do you care about my personal beliefs? You probably don’t even care about my opinion.

Regardless of what you’re personal beliefs are, you need to analyze what is best in your situation. How many times have you said, “I know this is wrong, but I want to do this, or I should do it anyway?” Almost everyone has said this at least once in their lives. Now imagine that you are 15 years old and find out you’re having a baby. It’s a difficult decision to make. And now you have to think about what is best for all people involved, and sometimes that best decision is abortion.

What would be best, giving your child up for adoption (remember that there are thousands of kids still looking for a home), you can get an abortion (maybe, unless they outlaw it), or you could keep the child. If they outlawed abortion, adoption sites would be even more crowed with children trying to find a home; many will never find a home. The young parents would keep their child, which they probably can’t afford and will be forced to use welfare, not to mention a child rasing a child. These babies will be even more messed up than the people today. Our population would increase at an even more rapid rate. There are so many things to consider when you don’t allow abortion. It will affect everyone in this country.

Planned Parenthood defended themselves saying, “It is hard to believe that by passing this ban they are addressing what is most on the minds of most of the citizens of Louisiana.” I think they might be right. But then again, Blanco was the one who was arguing with the New Orleans Mayor about not evacuated residents right before hurricane Katrina hit. Blanco was too busy being a B**** to do her job and have a mandatory evacuation of her residents. This woman needs to be taken out of office. She should have died during the hurricane because she was responsible for thousands of other people dying. It doesn’t seem like she really cares about her residents. If fact, she probably doesn’t care about anyone else but herself. After all, it is because of her “personal beliefs” that she has decided to ban abortion.

14 Million Aliens Forecast to Get Amnesty

According to the Washington Times, more than 9.9 million illegal aliens now in the United States will receive amnesty under an immigration-reform bill passed by the Senate, though about a quarter will do so fraudulently, and the bill allows for 4.5 million family members to join them in the United States.

I was disappointed to learn that all these illegal aliens will be allowed to live and work here without having to be deported. They should apply for citizenship just like anyone else. What the government is hoping is that these amnesty-granted mexicans will be on the right track to becoming real citizens, and that they will do so willingly. I don’t think that’s the best idea.

Now you have the illegals who are already here being granted amnesty while their families who currently live in Mexico are allowed to cross the border and live in the United States. I can see many problems with this situation. First of all, where are all of these Mexicans going to live? I suppose they can squeezed into their families houses. Mexicans are used to living very close together, but will the families really welcome them?

Second, what will the Mexicans do for work? Are they expected to do labor jobs because that’s all they’re qualified to do, whereas their family members may have worked their way up or even received education to advance their careers (hardly, but it could happen). It’s not a good idea to allow people into this country just because their family lives here.

I think the Senate did not think this enire issue very thouroughly. They wanted a quick fix for all of the illegal aliens. Too many illegals were complaining about themselves being classified as felons, so the government wanted a way to classify them as legals. The Sentate needs to start listening to their own constiutents rather than the illegals who have no right to be saying anything.

Liberal Activists Boo Clinton

The Washington Post reported that Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) received boos from her audience of liberal activists during her appearance at the Take Back America conference at the Washington Hilton. Not everyone booed at her. It was mostly liberal activists, who are basically like the Satan of the free world.

Clinton was booed for opposing to a timetable for withdrawing U.S. troops from Iraq. Her reasoning behind her decision is that she does not think that it is “a smart strategy either for the president to continue with his open-ended commitment, which I think does not put enough pressure on the new Iraqi government, nor do I think it is smart strategy to set a date certain. I do not agree that that is in the best interest of our troops or our country.” It is very inspiring that a Democrat is willing to see what is best for our country and our people as opposed to telling people what they want to hear. Finally someone is brave enough and smart enough to do their job.

Many people have accused John McCain of swinging both sides, but he is just doing his job. McCain uses his brain to determine what is best for our country instead of doing what everyone else wants. You need to listen to your constituents, but our political leaders are the professionals and need to be capable of leading us to the extent of their power. The American people can’t always see what we need for ourselves or even what is best for ourselves. I used to think my parents didn’t know what was best for me, but it was me that didn’t know what was best for me. There are things out there we don’t know about that our leaders do.

I applaud Clinton for standing up for what she believes is the best for our country. That shows that she is working for our best interests. She’s good at her job and deserves to be in office. But much is to be said about her opposition, John Kerry (Mass.). Even though Kerry is a Democrat too, he has criticized Clinton with her decision. He said, “It’s not enough to argue with the logistics or to argue about the details or the manner of the conflict’s execution or the failures of competence, as great as they are. It is essential to acknowledge that the war itself was a mistake, to say the simple words that contain more truth than pride. We were misled. We were given evidence that was not true. It was wrong, and I was wrong to vote for that Iraqi resolution.”

I don’t know about you, but I would not want someone in office who is unsure of his vote. Kerry’s flightiness and lack of real values is what lost his ability to win office in the 2004 presidential election. I don’t think Kerry really knows what he believes. Kerry doesn’t know how to think for himself. He’s a people-pleaser who will vote with the masses and believe in what the masses believe. He has no real knowledge to be able to lead this country. I’m ashamed he’s even a senator. Massachusetts should be ashamed for putting such an idiot into office. Kerry might be trying to flex his liberal muscles at Clinton to try and win the Democrat nominee, but the Dems would have to be insane to put Kerry back into another presidential race after losing to someone like Bush.
