John McCain was born on a Military base. And aren’t military bases considered US soil?

Current State Department policy reads: “Despite widespread popular belief, U.S. military installations abroad and U.S. diplomatic or consular facilities are not part of the United States within the meaning of the 14th Amendment. A child born on the premises of such a facility is not subject to the jurisdiction of the United States and does not acquire U.S. citizenship by reason of birth.”

However, in 1790

Congress first extended citizenship to children born to U.S. parents overseas on March 26, 1790, under the first naturalization law: “And the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond sea, or outside the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens.”

The confusion comes up because of the Dred Scott case of 1856 in which this issue was raised. That case was later overturned by the 13th and 14th amendments. So does that nullify a ruling that was made more than 60 years before?

I don’t think so.

The 14th Amendment

All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.

The 13th Amendment

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

So I’m not sure how people get the idea that these two amendments have anything to do with the 1790 ruling. The 14th amendment establishes two classes of citizens; natural born and naturalized. The 1790 ruling puts people like McCain in the “natural born” category which is what is required to be able to be president. Unless McCain’s parents were not citizens then he is natural born.

Three major candidates have sought the Presidency who were born outside the United States: Barry Goldwater, George Romney and John McCain.

George Romney just happens to be Mitt Romney’s dad. The NYT has now run two ridiculous attacks on John McCain. They can’t get him on personal issues. They can’t get him on political issues. So now they want to pretend he is disqualified from even running because of where he was born.

No wonder the NYT has a 24% approval rating. They’re retarded.
